Has my 2700HGV been updated by BT then?

I was out for a few hours earlier today and when I returned I found that I
could no longer access the router statistics and DSL troubleshooting pages.
NB. I am connected to Plusnet Broadband and not BT
When I access http://192.168.1.254 I get a completely different homepage
from before. The format has changed, much of the content is different and
there is a BT logo top right. See here
http://www.flyingnun.co.uk/NewHomepage.jpg
I have managed to find the DSL troubleshooting page and statistics page by
going to the site map tab. It is much the same information given as before
with a bitloading map on the other DSL Diagnostics page I used to access but
the statistics page has become a Broadband status page and along with the
statistics shown before there is a lot more data.

Looking at the Systems Information page two things jumped out at me:
(1) Firmware Version is stated as 6.1.1.48.1-enh.tm which I don't
recognise, and
(2) System Password is stated as Custom: ****** I presume from this that
the password is made up of 6 characters whereas my System Password was 5. Or
is the one they quote the login password, and not the system password which
in my case is in fact 6 characters?

Does this imply that my firmware has been updated by BT and that if I need
to enter my Plusnet login details sometime in the future, will the 2700HGV
become a 'brick', as someone once suggested in this newsgroup what seems
like aeons ago now?

If it does mean this, is there anyone who's experienced this and found a
way round it? Everything appears to be working as before so far, so
presumably if I don't ever need to re-enter PN login data I should be OK.

This particular 2700HGV was first set up on 22/12/2009, but up 'til then I
had another 2700HGV running OK for just over 12 months. I wonder if that
particular version (hardware and/or firmware) made it immune to this.

Yes, that's Version 6 firmware, but there's a workround here :-

I've connected a Version 6 to Plusnet without any problems. As the site
above explains, you will lose some functionality.

The site is the best source of info that I've come across for the
2700hgv

I found this page which gives similar information if you follow the links in
the text.
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php?topic=6072.0
I was a bit concerned about the system password though. Before it was
upgraded I was using a 5 character system password, but looking in the data
now it says of the system password that it is Current: ****** Now does this
mean it's unchanged and they always use the 6 asterisks to show the
password, or has it been changed to a new default 6 character password.
Reading more shows where an encryption key can be found on the label with
model and serial number etc, but this is more than 6 characters in length.
But is this 'encryption key' the default system password anyway? I'm
confused.

The link on the Kitz site is to the home page of bt2700hgv.tripod.com.

The encryption keys on the base of the 2700 relate to the default
passphrases for the 2 wireless SSIDs it supports.

1. SSID - BTBusinessHub-969 WEP encryption - default for PC/laptop
wireless.

2. SSID - BT Fusion7969 WPA encryption - default for wireless VOIP
phones.

System password is neither of these. I can't remember what it is by
default - username is admin & password is admin, password, or 2wire.
Default password for the mdc is 2wire, but your access to this will
have been disabled by the firmware upgrade.

Did your broadband connection continue to work OK with the 2wire after
the firmware upgrade ?

I connected to my previous 2700HGV and found that it's firmware version was
(still is) 5.29.107.19 . Since that didn't get upgraded in the 12 months
of running up to December 22nd, I was wondering if that was immune to being
upgraded. Or maybe the firewall was configured with Remote management
unticked. Must check that.

Yep it works fine. My RouterStats I was running at the time and was
disconnected then wouldn't re-connect at first but I managed to get that
going as well.

I think that you've answered my query Grant. Many thanks.

You should also check the wireless settings - BT Fusion & BT Openzone
may have been enabled by default after the upgrade.

Try "Quick service links" on the router homepage, or dig down in the
wireless settings.

Thanks for that alanp. BT Fusion was in fact enabled but Openzone was not.
