Has anyone ever taken longer network cables, and extended the wireless
router to a more deireable location besides next to their PC/Modem?

I used (2) 25 foot network cables (to go back to the PC and modem) and ran
it closer to center of the house to get better coverage.

What's the longest length of network cables that can be used for this??

I did 50 feet in my neighbors attic and bought PoE a (Power over Ethernet)
thingy from D-Link.
I get great reception.

I have read there is no signal loss in Ethernet cable, but there is in
antenna cable.

Sure.

Oh, 50 km or so if you went with fibre convertors in the middle.
100 metres if you want to use 100 megabit/s over copper with no switches
or routers.

You can run CAT5 cable up to 100 meters, (over 300 feet).

There is signal loss in every cable (except perhaps superconducting ones.)
The difference is that ethernet is digital, and the specifications
have been written to take signal degredation into account.

100 meters is the spec, but I am going 450 with no problems.

Very good wire though, but not sure if that is a factor ?

I think Ethernet is more fogiving than they say...

I used to have a 30m "Coax" type connection in my parents house going
through normal bell wire (unshielded).

Now I have a "Cat5" type network wired up with cheap old telephone wire,
with lots of joins and connector blocks in it

works fine

Let's see. I'm on my laptop right now, connected to my AP. It is
connected to a hub by about 70 feet of cable. The hub is connected by
a short cable to a wireless bridge, which is connected by two
cantennas and .6 miles of air to another wireless bridge, which is
connected by about 60 feet of cable to a cable modem.

It seems to me I remember, back when I was making cables, that the
maximum recommended for cat5 ethernet twisted pair was 100 meters.
