Has 128-bit SSL encryption ever been broken?

In a discussion regarding WiFi security, the issue arose of whether
https sites are safe to use on unsecured public WiFi networks.

Part of the answer to that question is whether 128-bit SSL encryption
has ever been broken.

Anybody know?

There is of course no way to know for sure. What is known is that SSL
is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks, and that some SSL
implementations have had vulnerabilities of their own. See "SSL
