HARASSMENT FROM TOUCAN CALL CENTRE

This afternoon I was trying to configure a wireless network router and
fax service. But some damned Toucan sales agent phoned me at a critical
point and disrupted my train of thought. He tried to persuade me to
switch over from BT. I said "no thank you" and put the phone down.

Jeeze - I'd just got started again when I got another phone call from
the same guy. I said "NO THANK YOU!" and put the phone down.

This did not stop the moron because I then got TWENTY more phone calls
at random intervals throughout the afternoon. And I was also expecting
a call from a travel agent about a holiday we'd booked so I had to
answer and couldn't leave the phone off the hook.

This company and its sales staff really are the pits - why don't they
take "NO" for an answer. As if I'm ever going to subscribe to their
poxy service after irritating the hell out of me for a day. CJB.

P.S. Like the Mailing Preference Service is there an organisation I can
join to stop getting these crap calls? They started ever since I got a
new BT line in and then subscribed to Demon broadband. One of these
sold my telephone no., because I keep getting similar calls from other
phone companies.

Solution: Buy a parrot and teach it to say, "Feck Off" or "Your
mother is a ___________ (fill in the blank space yourself). Even
better, teach parrot both phrases.

When Toucan salesman calls, switch phone to 'hands-free' mode and
attach to parrot's cage. Problem solved.

It certainly wouldn't have been BT then coz I'm sure they wouldn't
want you to sign up with Toucan !

None here, whatsoever. I use Firefox 2.0, it that makes a
difference....?
I'd "bother" as it's quite entertaining, in an 'american' sort of way.

Noone has to sell your phone number. It could have previously been held by
someone else who put it in some marketing thing, or it could be a randomly
dialed number.
We had exactly the same happen after activating a second number on our
phone line. I registered with the TPS and the calls have stopped but it
took a couple of weeks.

The trick is to say, on the second call, that you want to be taken off
their contact list immediately, and will take action should they
continue to harass you. They should, if they're sticking to their code
of conduct, mark your number as DNC.
I also find that asking for the full name of the operative who called
you is quite effective.

The TPS. Don't hold your breath for it to work tho, more likely it'll
stop your bank calling you, and the cowboy operators will carry on.
Like the MPS its an opt-in scheme run by the DMA ie self-regulated and
the bad guys are free to ignore it.
