What happens if the router is switched off for days?

If my modem/router were switched for several days (e.g. when I went on
holiday) then switched on again when I returned.... would it have to
start the whole 'learning process' like it did when I first got ADSL?

If your router has its own power (eg Netgear ADSL router), should have its
own internal memory that remembers what you saved.

I went overseas for three weeks, came back, switched it on and everything
was fine - all in under five minutes.

Or perhaps YES!

I have seen rumours in bulletin boards that BT ADSLMax *will* do a full
reset if disconnected for 14 days or longer!

Hi,

It shouldn't go through the full 10 day training period again, but with Max
everytime you sync up it will negotiate the sync speed, so if anything
changes on the line or the evironment over the time the router is off you
could have a period of instability as it adjusts to any changes.

This has thrown me a wee bit, what learning process are you talking about.

Sorry, I wasn't clear, though some managed to guess what I meant.
I should have specifically said MaxDSL .

When someone first gets Max there is a 'training'period during which
things eventually settle down to a stable state. (In my case that took
about a month!). Anyway, I was wondering (and others have kindly
answered) if that training period would start again if my modem/router
was switched for several days.

Thanks to those who responded...

Why switch it off at all..? Apart from the PC's, which get switched off if
I'm away for more than 24 hours, my system has been up & running for over
7 years. The only time the router has ever been without power is when
we've had the occasional power cut and the UPS has given out, or if it's
needed to be rebooted for some reason.

And anyone who leaves ANY electrical appliance switched on when not
needed is either stupid or they have money to burn .

When you say MaxDSL are you referring to the later 'up to' speeds rather
than the older set speeds.

Reason I ask is I still have a fixed speed (1mbps) but intend to change
but have not heard of this training period.

What happens in this training period.
