'hacking' a Sky router

What am I doing wrong?

I've been to http://dg834gt.mognuts.com/NetgearRouterUtility.html and
gone through the motions to get my Sky username/password combo to try
and configure my own Netgear router (DG834 i think it is) but I cannot
get my router to connect no matter what.

Am I missing something? I've simply put the u/p into the new router, but
it refuses to connect to Sky.

Is there another field I need to be filling in to get it to connect?

What an excellent scam for getting user names and passwords via scripts!
Don't use that site, Google on how to do it yourself instead. There are a
few sites that have info such as Digital Spy.

why would you change from an 834 GT to a plain 834?

Can you not upgrade the software like you can a normal 834GT though
http://<router ip>/upgrade.htm&todo=cfg_init

Also don't these need to be returned to Sky once the contract is up, or
do you keep them

Who said I was? I quite like the idea of a spare in case the Sky router
goes tits up. Don't assume.

You are saying that that site is obtaining u/p by such methods?

I found that site by such a method.

Yeah, it does, as I found a link to a site that does exactly what I've
already done. I've retrieved the username and password as before, they
are the same.... having entered the exact same details as before, the
result will be the same, so I'm still stuck.

I ought to say at this point, I'm no stranger to configuring routers,
especially the Netgear range, but this one has got me stumped, because,
from what i see, i have mirrored the Sky settings exactly.

Wierd! Before I sold the Netgear DG834 - which was my router prior to the
Sky one - I just extracted the username and password as you did. It connected
and peformed flawlessly on Sky Broadband!

No - it is more complex than that! The router sees the standard Netgear
software as an incompatible upgrade. You have to go via the emergency
recovery system.

: do you keep them

Like EVERYTHING Sky supply the free routers are the customers property from
the day they arrive.
