I'm relatively new to Linux and I'm in the middle of a class project
to network a group of Fedora Core 2 workstations to a Fedora Core 2
server. I have NIS set up and NFS implemented. I can SSH into the
server from the clients, but I want to be able to access the network
from the primary log in screen after the boot up. My experience is in
Windows Server environments and this task is (of course) easy to do
there - just install the active directory and set up one machine to be
the Primary Domain Controller. I've been Googling for a solution for a
couple days now and I can only find references to applications such as
VNC. However, I want to log in to the network from the first screen,
before accessing the desktop. Thank you for your time, this will
greatly help my project.

Since you're using Fedora, you're probably using PAM, so you
probably need to modify your gdm/kdm/xdm PAM configuration to
use NIS. Since this is homework, I'll let you try to figure out
how to do that. (I am surprised that Fedora's tools didn't
do this for you, but perhaps you bypassed them.)

Access the network how? Do you mean that you want to be able to log
in at the graphical login box using accounts defined on the NIS
server? Or do you mean that you want to be able to login and have the
graphical file explorer show a home directory from a remote NFS
server?

It's still not clear what it is you're actually wanting to achieve.
Can you be a bit more clear?
