Access the network how? Do you mean that you want to be able to log
in at the graphical login box using accounts defined on the NIS
server? Or do you mean that you want to be able to login and have the
graphical file explorer show a home directory from a remote NFS

It's still not clear what it is you're actually wanting to achieve.
