Group names, user names and domains

Hello,

I have a need to change all the user names and group names that have
spaces or upper case letters in our small domain. I need to change them
so that there only lower case letters and no spaces in any group name
or
user name.

Am I correct in the idea that the SIDs are what are used for security
across the domain and changing the names will only have negligible
impact? It would only inconvenience those users that are using the
current user names? The group name changes would not affect anyone at
all???

Are there any "bugaboos" and "gotchas" that would require us to be
careful?

Would it be safe to do this on a production Primary Domain Controller?
Is it safe to do while the PDC is in operation?

Thanks,

Guru

This shouldn't be an issue for you. You would be wise to document the
changes, in case something breaks...

Your network environtment can need or not a PDC. If you want to work
hard with the control of the lan, should learn-about and dedicate some
time to this issue. The PDC amdimistrator should know what he want, what
the organization needs, what he haves and know the limits.
For some mall networks the nice pieces are: a good firewall, a server
group and local policies.
