What good is WEP?

I've got a Linksys BEFW11S4 which I've put into mandatory WEP 64-bit mode.
My XP Desktop with a WUSB11 can't connect without the WEP mandatory set-up
and the right keys. Fine. But my W98 laptop connects fine, with or without
WEP! So what's the point?

What? Is the Win 98 machine not using a wireless card? If the Win 98
doesn't have a wireless card, then what is your point?

or - just basically - how does the Win98 laptop connect ?
and what are you connecting to -
to the BEFW11S4
or via the XP desktop and via the USB adapter ?

does the laptop have a wireless card or ??

WEP is for wireless, so would not effect your wired W98 connection.

The Win98 machine connects with a WPC11 (Linksys Wireless)
