Good Home Networking Guides

Hi

As something of a home-networking newbie, I wonder if anyone can advise or
point me in the direction where I can get good guides for setting up a
wired/wireless home network?

I have two PCs (both running XP Pro). One PC is connected directly to the
D-Link DI624 Router via an ethernet cable, the other is connected by a
D-Link wireless card.

I had no trouble setting up the router or installing the wireless card in
the second pc - they both share the NTL cable modem connection with no
trouble.

Last night I managed it, but then I couldn't actually connect to one from
another. Today I've gone backwards! I've run through the XP Home network
wizard a number of times but can't seem to get either computer to see the
other on the network.

Any help/pointers gratfully received.

Hi, have you set the workgroup to both the same on all machines, ie ur the
client machine should be the same as the server default it Mshome, to check
this right click on my computer, properties, select the Computer Name Tab,
click the change button and set it to what you want and then on other
machines do the same.

doesn't mean it will work though
mine worked fine and as I a add this adjusted that is now knackered
as they say if it ain't broke.....

As one newbie to another can I ask if you've enabled file sharing and if
you've tried turning off Zone alarm - if you've got it.

It's all sorted now. I ran through the wizards on both computers again.
This time I created a network bridge and both pcs could see each other but
not access each other.

After a load of messing about with the firewalls on either machine, I'm in
business!
