Hi,
I've heard that problems can arise from using cheap microfilters - can
someone recommend a decent quality one and who supplies it? TIA.

http://www.adslnation.com/products/xf-1e.php

Works for me, allows Caller Display but others didn't.

JUNK is stuff that you keep for 20 years,
then throw away a week before you need it.

I've heard good reports of, and myself use the one from
ADSLNation.com, but BT also do their own:-

(Affiliate link) .

If you are having problems then I suppose it could be advantageous to
be able to tell BT that the filter is one of theirs?

The BT crappy filter didn't work too well for me. No Caller Display.

That's v. naughty.
ADSLNation one definitely is OK for CLI - I've just double-checked.

The Maplin ADSL/POTS extension socket has me happy. Also this has a
fair number of components inside which is generally a good sign.

I have not tried any more exotic equipment than a phone and router in it
though.

These people sell filters that work with CLI.

I installed the "MODIFIED BT ADSL Filter/Splitter Faceplate for NTE5
Master boxes"

Filters at source, works great, can improve a marginal situation
(compared with using individual filters). I ran an ADSL/BT extension
socket from the front sockets as this master socket is the other side
of a stud partition wall to where I wanted the ADSL point.

The BT filter is made by Excelsus:
http://shop.customnet.co.uk/product....230&CtgID=1014

It should support caller ID (the specs say it does), but my phone
doesn't have caller ID so I can't check it.

There's a new version of the Excelsus filter, so you may want to go
for that instead.

Oliver.
