going through plus net.
Are they any good


the package includes network cards and a router but i was told i would need
a hub for my router.

how much is one of these and where is best place to get one from

Take a look at ebuyer under networking and then hubs/switches, their
cheapest is £6.99 but you should choose one that best suits your needs.

well, a switch is better than a hub and will work faster than a hub but will
cost more, so you have to think of your budget. You may only have a few
computers now but you might have to think about getting a hub that could
cope with more in case you want to put some more in, in the future.

You just really have to think about your budget, and the capacity that you
might need in the future. Apart from that, they pretty much do all the same
job!!

Nathan I always thought a switch was just another name for a hub

Hi Grant
basically, a hub will dynamically switch the data packets from port to port
along a common internal highway, so the port-to-port bandwidth will depend
on how many ports are being used. A switch however, has a different
internal architecture like a crossbar and sets up point to point links
between the ports so they can go at full sped to each other.
