Gio-internet Help

I am trying to help a friend get connected. He went for the
Gio-Internet 512k package and they sent him the service activated
e-mail with a user name and password on the 30/12/03

He has tried for a couple of days to get connected but to no avail. I
took a BT voyager adsl modem along and this reports an adsl service
but we get error 721 when trying to login.

The premium rate Gio help number is never answered nor are e-mails to
their support people.

Basically is there anyone out there can help / or shares the same
problem

The user name password is along the lines of UPPERCASE-GIO@isp with
the password. Is this normal? i.e is @isp meant to mean
gio-internet.co.uk etc. We have tried every combination of upper and
lower case with the supplied details.

If there is a current Gio broadband user out there who can confirm
this is normal and any settings that proved to be important that would
be a greqt help. Also if any gio user has an alternative support
contact number that gets answered. We will be using the Voyager until
an adsl router arrives.

Thank you

Have you had any luck in getting this working yet?

I have exactly the same problem, having been told my line will be activated
on Monday but it seems to be activated now according to the modem control
panel, it just wont connect to Gio.

I get "verifying user name and password" then after a minute or so I get the
same error 721.
Have you managed to get through to the techincal support yet, wheneve I ring
the 09058180000 number it just rings out.

Hi Ian

It is good to know that we are not alone !

Still the same problem here. The support number ( premium rate ) does
not get answered and you can't log into the account section on the GIO
page to check settings or service status. I will post a follow up
if/when this changes. In the meantime be prepared for a pain with gio
to cancel your account. It has to be done by recorded delivery and to
an address that they don't give out on the cancellation page. I used
the corporate contact details for my dial up cancellation - 3 months
and threats of legal action they appear to have stopped debitting my
card...

snip....snip

Just out of interest and to see if there was a back door to get into
GIO I tried to create a new account. This fails. I will try my
existing "free" gio package this evening to see if they have limited
it to gio only connections

Did you try ringing the phone number for Sales? Any luck with that, they
seem to be closed at weekends but at least theres a recorded message instead
of just ringing out.

Is http://cp.giointernet.co.uk/ the service status page you tried, i cannot
log in on this with either of my usernames.
Hopefully on Wednesday, which is the actual date of my line activation (even
though it seems to be activated now), GIO will enable my account for
connection or something.

We had exactly the same problem a few weeks ago, the answer is that the
entire logon name is in uppercase.

Another interesting problem we had was that we were being disconnected every
two hours on the dot, GIO tried to blame windows 2000.

We spent 300.00 on consultants on site, only to have GIO admit mid December
that it was at their end, we are now trying to get our expenses refunded by
GIO.

Anybody else had similar problems with this ISP

Is the username in the form USERNAME or USERNAME-GIO@isp or perhaps
USERNAME-GIO@ISP.

When you first got the service could you get connected straight away without
these Error 721 problems and how did you get through to the GIO techincal
support?

I had an email on 29/12/03 from GIO saying that ADSL subscription had
been setup when I couldn't connect I phoned BT(there line) who said
that ADSL had not been activated on the line and she had no record of
an order from GIO, I phoned the corporate number on the GIO site they
said the technical support number was working but was so busy they
couldn't answer! He told me to try again later.

Not impressed GIO
