I got ssh to work fine on knoppix very easily so that I could ssh
through my laptop on a wireless connection to my desktop. Nothing works
on vector linux which is on my other desktop, I think I need to do a
keygen. When I try to run /usr/sbin/sshd it complains with no host keys
and lists file names in the /etc/ssh directory. Can I run sshd from a
regular shell ? Once I get all this to work, then I'll focus on the
finer points.
I can't post the exact sshd error message as I haven't figured out how
to mount my flash drive to this machine either. So I have no
connectivity and I can''t even cut and paste from a file into the web
browser it appears ...

I can do a ssh-keygen which deposits a file in my home directory. Which
man page or other documentation should I start with to get this to
work, or is there some easy way to get thist to work ?

OPen VASM. Under Service, srvset, runlevel, ssh. Enable ssh and reboot.
You will have to press a few keys on the keyboard while it generates
the keys.
