Getting Proftpd to work with MySQL Authentication

I realize this message was posted before, but I wasn't as far as the
last person to post this.

Does anyone know of any type of tutorial to begin this process? I see
the table columns from the previous post with this same subject, but
how do you get ProFTP to look in the table for the authentication?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Brandon

Proftpd: A User's Guide
Chapter 7. Authentication

http://linux.tnc.edu.tw/techdoc/prof...28.html#AEN673

Example 7-6. Typical configuration for SQL support
Example 7-7. Working mysql config
Example 7-8. database structure (mysql)

You should really get used to the concept of search engines
or/and simply look up the docu that comes with the package.

Good luck

Isn't that the point of posting here? Asking questions about things I
don't know about and haven't been able to find myself? Isn't the point
to ask people who either know it, or know where to find it quicker than
I do while I search and am unable to find it?

I hope you do not feel that you have wasted your time by offering it to
me.

Thanks,
Brandon

Nope, you wasted your time, you could have found the FAQ I
pointed out in under a second, like I did with just cut & paste
parts of your subject to google.

Good luck

I feel dumber for having actually come back and wondering what you
would say in reply. Maybe next time I'll be wondering how to find
google.com.

The point being, it was quite easy to find via google (I used your
subject, and Michael's link was the tenth hit), so the fact that you
posted your question means you didn't work very hard to find the answer.
When you regularly post first rather than searching (and complain when
others ask you to do so), you end up putting yourself in a position
where people don't want to answer your questions any more, even when
they are not easily googlable.

So Michael's objective wasn't to make you feel dumb (or to make you
sarcastically state that you feel dumb), but to help you ensure that
your future questions get answered by as wide an audience as possible.
Unless you never plan on posting another question ever again, you might
want to consider taking his advice.

Anyone else think Google's usenet interface should perform a google
search on the subject of a post before actually posting the message?

Why not just take the one second search that I missed, perhaps take an
extra second to say the words you searched for and why they worked
instead of saying "get used to the concept of a search engine".

I appreciate Michael's posting the web page of my exact problem. And
I appreciate your post on trying to get me to understand that what I'm
doing isn't liked. Thanks for helping.

Brandon

It would probably only be slightly more effective than trying to tell
people to use google to search for answers.

Posting a google link in response to a question is about all such
questions warrant, and is about as effective as anything further in
getting the point across.

I figure eventually they will ask a question, nobody answers, so they
learn to use google. Then they come to realize that it is faster to
search google than it is to try and get people to respond over
usenet...which can take minutes, hours, sometimes days. Whereas a
google search takes seconds 99% of the time and usually results in a
more informative answer.

On the other hand, what is really embarassing is when you do a google
search, find nothing and have exhausted your ideas, post a question,
think of something else to try in google, and have your answer before
your post even makes its way to all the news servers.
