have a look at your IP addresses
they should all be set to 192.160.1.x and on the same subnet mask i.e. 255.255.255.0 I dont understand where your DNS comes in "Yoma44" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed) om... > I'm having trouble getting my Wireless laptop to see the other > computers on my home network. Hi Yoma44
The DNS, am sure comes from the Internet Provider.. As my router gets them automatically from my Provider, and all my other machines gain a DNS server addy too, without my intervention. I guess that you do not need the bridge? When I have tried bridging I found that my network wouldnt function: no other comps could be seen in my network (from the computer that was bridged).. and I wasnt able to connect to the Internet..(When I removed the bridge all were realised again). I use a Wired RJ45 port, and WiFi card/s on my laptop, and exchange between the Wired and the WiFi depending if i am downloading large files or just surfing the net. (Tosh Pro A10) Try removing the bridge and make sure (as (E-Mail Removed) said), that all your IP's are in the same segment, or get IP address's automatically from the router ... ALL my IP's come from my router (DHCP enabled) as I find this very reliable.. Your problem is definitely with your IP addresses...
I see several sub-nets 192.168.1.x, 192.168.0.x and 10.0.1.x. Pick one, it does not matter (keep it in the private network ranges), but make the first three sections of your IP address the same on each computer. If you are using DHCP, you evidently have two DHCP servers setup to dole out different IP ranges. Use ONLY one DHCP server if you are using DHCP. For instance, set your IPs as follows... Router - 192.168.1.1 Marin - 192.168.1.2 Lango - 192.168.1.3 Lanboy - 192.168.1.4 Set all subnets to 255.255.255.0 Make sure the internal XP firewall of OFF for all computers and install something like Zone Alarm. The internal firewall in XP disables file and print sharing. Hope this helps, PTM "Yoma44" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed) om... > I'm having trouble getting my Wireless laptop to see the other > computers on my home network. Hi Yoma44... Sorry!! i read your posting wrongly first time round.
I have tried setting up my network as yours (to a point), However I found the following: My laptop wireless connection works fine, I see the net, and Local Lan, HOWEVER, when I then connect another computer to it via a crossover cable I loose my connections, when I try to bridge the connections and set the bridge to 192.168.0.* No connection is available at all..Not even on the local network to the other computer that it is connected to. Upon trying it the other way round: ie: Connecting laptop via WIRED to another comp with two netcards, the bridging works.. It will NOT bridge with the WiFi card for some reason, I have no idea why... Is there an issue with WiFi cards and bridging anyone? Sorry I was of no help Regards Alan PS This posting is via my wired Laptop(XP-Home) to the bridge on my desktop, to router (two net cards in desktop XP-Pro) "Yoma44" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed) om... > I'm having trouble getting my Wireless laptop to see the other > computers on my home network. I suggest you go into XP help and do a search on "bridge". Under Microsoft
Knowledge Base, item 9 has the heading: Bridge May Not Work With a Non-Promiscuous Mode Network Adapter This describes a problem that has your symptoms. In fact, they specifically list a D-lik wifi card as having this problem, although it doesn't mention Dell. The article suggests a workaround. My experience is that many wifi card manufacturer drivers simply do not support promiscuous mode, or else make it really hard to turn on. That's why Ethereal and other sniffers that are supposed to work on Windows often cannot sniff raw network data (i.e., cannot be run in rfmon or "promiscuous" mode). In case you cannot find the article, here's the suggested workaround (good luck): RESOLUTION To work around this behavior, force the adapter into Compatibility mode: 1.. At a command prompt, type netsh bridge show adapter. 2.. Locate the identification number of the NIC that is not responding. 3.. If the NIC is not in Compatibility mode, you can change it manually if you type the following command, where 1 is the number of the NIC that is displayed in the first step: netsh bridge set adapter 1 forcecompatmode=enable 4.. Run the netsh bridge show adapter command again to verify that the ForceCompatabilityMode field for the NIC is displayed as Enabled.
