You could try a userid of (E-Mail Removed)in to test if adsl is
working yet - it gives you a bit of access.

Try ringing PlusNet, say your link is connected and ask if they can activate
your account.
I did the same with Virgin and they connected me straight away.

That doesn't mean that BT have activated your line. It could be that they
are still carrying out remote tests; my router showed a connection for
four days before BT had actually finished activating it.

Your ISP will have been given a date by BT, and this is the date that your
line is to be activated. They will set up your account for you by this
date, and BT will not activate your line before the date it is due to be
done by.

well I think I moved on to my adsl account with demon, reliquishing my
dialup in the process, about 24 to 48 hours early. I think it's
essentially an 'own risk' arrangement - if BT take the line down again
for an hour or two in the interim (and I think they did) you can't
complain.

And Do try the bt test account before doing anything irreversible ...
Bob

PS not everything is rocket powered - I can download the latest linux
kernel (32MB) in 10 minutes, but it still takes just as long to get into
the site on a busy weekend... You will still need patience

I believe that if you try to login to Plusnet it will fail the 1st time.

However, they run a script so if you try an hour later your account will
have been activated.

Lines can and often are activated early for ADSL by BT.

Many ISP's will allow you to use the account immediately, its not necessary
to wait for the official activation date.

Hi,
just for your info, if you want the latest linux kernel, try using
http://www.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.ke...b/linux/kernel. The site is
mirrored at least daily, and much easier to access than kernel.org.

I had my router plugged in and configured for "always on" for a week or two
in advance of the switch-on date, and would check the indicator lights and
diagnostic page each day. I suppose in this state the device is making
repeated automatic calls, because I didn't have to do anything further; one
day it was working, and it hasn't stopped since.

Rod.
