Gets IP then can't see anything

I have a machine on a network with 6 other computers. To
share the internet we have a netcomm ishare 56k modem.

This particular machine will get itself an IP, netmask
etc. from the netcomm router but then it won't ping
anything. It can't see any of the other computers and it
can't even ping the router it got the ip from! It can
only ping itself.

I have reinstalled the network card and tcp/ip. I have
turned off the firewall, even tried booting with
everything in the startup turned off in msconfig.

Any ideas?

My last thought just then is maybe a virus?

What IP is being assigned? If it is 169.154.xxx.xxx, then it isn't
receiving an IP address...that is the address that defaults when a
DHCP server can't be reached.

It gets 192.168.1.xxx which is in the range set in the
router.
