When to get MAC ?

Hi

I'm currently with Pipex and seem to be waiting forever to be upgraded to
1Mb (I know I could have paid the £15 to get it done sooner but the BT
upgrade roll out is due to be completed soon so no point now). However, even
at 1Mb, it is still slower than the Broadband Premier offering from Plusnet.
At £21.99 a month for 2Mb, it is double the speed of the 1Mb I'm due to get
and £1.45 a month cheaper. The contention is also only 30:1 as compared to
50:1 with Pipex. (Sorry if I'm sounding like an advert).

Therefore I'm thinking of migrating to Plusnet. I pay for my broadband each
month with my credit card and the amount is automatically deducted on the
23rd. When is the best time to ask for my MAC so that I'm not paying for
extra days/weeks unnecessarily ?

For those already on the Broadband premier account, is the service uncapped
? For those that play games, have you noticed your ping times lowered due to
lower contention ?

Thanks for any replies.

Ask for your MAC at any time. You then have 30 days to use it and no
notification periods will be entered into until you actually use it.

Your best bet is to get the MAC now then sign up a week before your next
bill is due (depending on lead times). You may even be able to arrange
for the migration to be requested on a specific day if you call PlusNet
enough in advance though I can't remember if you can or not.

The only gotchya is that migration is from one product of a particular
line speed to another product of the same line speed. So you could be
migrated into PlusNet at your current line speed (probably 512K) free of
charge. To go to the 2Mbit connection it is a migrate and a regrade so
there would be a 14.99 fee.
