Hello,

how can I get all IP-adresses of the PC's that are actually
connected to LAN? I don't want to try
ping 192.168.0.1
ping 192.168.0.2
...
ping 192.168.0.255

How can I do it shorter?

thx
Ekkard

Not everything responds to a broadcast ping. Windows doesn't for
instance, and it can be disabled in Linux.

As Nat said, nmap is more reliable.

That will just show the ARP cache, i.e. the machines you have contacted
recently. It's an even worse suggestion than broadcast ping.

The OP should use Nat's suggestion to use nmap.

Ping the broadcast address.

For example, ping -b 192.168.1.255.

Arp only lists hosts that have had recent communication with the computer
running arp.
