Geographic breakdown of IP space

Long ago I had a web hosting service that would provide a
geographic breakdown of the access logs. I don't know if they just made
this up or what.

Now I'm hosting my own sites, and I'd like to do the same. Is there any
way to find out where my hits are coming from?

In particular, I want to know how many are from my immediate area.

Thanks.

I use Geolizer, that is a patch to Webalizer that instead of
resolving the IP addresses it uses the GeoIP database to tell you
which country the requests came from. But I don't know if it will
suit your needs.
