Hi - I'm hoping someone in here might be able to help me, as I've been
tearing my hair out and I can't seem to find any answers through google.

Ok. I have one pc and one laptop. Both computers were connected to a
wireless broadband router (WL-R4R) and worked fine. Then, first the pc
got infected with spyware and other problems. Once spyware is cleaned,
the pc won't connect any more. Then the usb 'dongle' for the laptop got
broken, and I'm having no luck whatsoever in connecting using a new one
I bought.

Basically, the software with the usb adapter has installed fine, and I
can connect via it to my mobile phone. But I can't get it to 'see' the
router. And also, when I go on the router's setup screen, there are no
active wireless connections listed. I have tried putting in the
adapter's MAC address in order to get it to recognize it, have done a
'search' via the bluetooth software on the pc to try and 'find' the
router, but am having no luck whatsoever. The laptop keeps saying
'Bluetooth network - a network cable is unplugged'. Well, the router is
connected to the modem via a rj45 cable, the usb adapter is in the
laptop, so I don't know what I'm missing? I just can't seem to get this
new usb adapter to 'see' the router. I have tried changing 'channels' on
the router - no luck. And also ticking the box for it to be 'open'
(which I assume means it's searchable - there was no manual with the
router, and I can't seem to find much help online)

The only thing I can think of which might be a problem, is that the
bluetooth software supplied with the usb adapter seems to see my laptop
as a 'server'. It has options to let other computers and devices connect
to my laptop to access the net etc etc, but no easy configuration option
to make my laptop a 'client' of the wireless network.

Anyone have any ideas at all? I'm at the end of my tether and have no
idea what to do next...

Any help would be greatly appreciated. s

Thank you

(the usb adapter is made by 'Nimbus' , is 2400 - 2483.5MHz FHSS RF-
Frequency and the router has no brand name - just says '11Mbps Wireless
Broadband Router. 802.11b-ISM 2.4GHz and is model WL-R4R)

the USB device appears to be a Bluetooth dongle, hence it connects to
the phone. What you need is a WiFi dongle (802.11b or 802.11g) to
access the internet wirelessly. You have the wrong thing, I think.

Tried different routers and dongles, and ended up concluding that 11g
had more range. Lost pesos, cuz bought 11g, which I hadda' trade in
for the (cheaper) 11b. Also, an "expert" claimed 11b has more range. I
was told 11b or 11g is moot for high speed Internet as the incoming
speed is only 2 megabits or is it megabytes? Megahype, if you ask me,
given the hassle of wireless. But let's not grumble.
