As a general rule, you should be able to safely mix equipment
from different vendors. I've been doing it for almost 2 years
now and I have not encountered any issues that I would
blame on that specifically. (They are all designing to meet
the 802.11 specification.)
Many of us purposely buy different pieces from different vendors,
because of specific features (e.g. ability to attach external antennas, etc)
that one vendor implements that another does not.
That said, however, if you are asking whether products from
some vendors are of higher quality than others, the answer
is clearly 'yes'. There are plenty of bugs and features not
implemented correctly.
(As just one example, I have recently reported problems I'm having
with the Linksys BEFW11S4-V4, with firmware V 1.45.7 (latest firmware).
The box is loosing Internet connectivity multiple times during the day,
requiring me to power-cycle it to get it going again. I'll be returning the
unit for a different model later this week. Potentially, this unit has
the best features out there, but the bug(s) in it are haunting me.)
Hope this helps...
