general point to point question

I am setting up a wireless bridge to connect a remote office and since
this is the first time I have ever done anything like this, I figured I
would come on here to take advantage of the board's expertise.

The 2 offices are around 200 yards apart but there is clear line of sight.
External antennas would be necessary and there will be a good amount of
distance to the access points (50 feet on one end, 25 feet on the
other) There isn't a very high bandwidth requirement between the sites.

Security does matter for us so I guess WPA would be preferable.

It sounds as thought the buffalo WBR-G54 would be a good choice for the
access points but I have absolutely no idea what to look for as far as
antennas go or what sort of cables I would need to connect an external
antenna. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For this link you have a few options on antennas. The distance is not
a problem for most any configuration of external antenna. A good
choice would be a flat panel antenna of about 11 dbi of gain (Andrew
makes a very good product) For cable Times LMR400 is a very good
choice for the 2.4 ghz equipment. There are cables that can provide
lower loss but for the price and ease of use it is a very good choice.

A further note on antennas although you don't need any more then 11
dBi of gain on each end higher gain offers a more narrow beamwidth. A
more narrow beamwidth generally reduces the chance of harmful
interference. Less harmfull interference will make the link more
reliable and stable (this is usually the objective). If you do receive
harmful interference try changing the polarity of the antennas by
rotating each end 90 degrees. If you are not aware the antennas
produce the strongest signal in either a horizontal or vertical
pattern depending on how they are mounted. If the two ends are
different the signal received at each end is about 30 db lower
(1/1000).

As far as security not all implementations of WEP or WPA are
identical. The amount of security and functionality a product offers
is very dependant on who makes it. We use Cisco 802.11b bridges which
provide the greatest degree of security and options. The down side is
there hihger cost and the skill needed to properly configure them.
Once they are in place they are very reliable as long as they are left
alone.
