I guess this was tackled here but I want to ask what is the better/best

better review that those of other use.

A router is a router, and I assume you are talking about a
broadband/DSL/Cable router.

How fast is your Internet connection? Is it a gigabit in speed? If not, it
doesn't really matter what speed switch it has if what you are worried about
is access to the internet because the bottleneck is your internet
connection.

If you are looking at what internal speed you want, such as with a gigabit
switch, you will need to ensure all your internal machines have gigabit
NICs. The more expensive units handle multiple hosts on the switch with
their switching algorithm much better than the lower end ones, such as Cisco
switches compared to a Netgear. Cisco wins hands down. Price is a factor
too. But you will NOT see the differences if you have 4 or 5 hosts. You will
see it when you have 100's or 1000's or more hosts.

When determining what features you need for a router, especially the retail
home market, I would look for security and ease of administration. Usually
for the most part, the Linksys broadband/DSL/Cable router will be fine and
work like a charm. If you need VPN access of additional security features,
such as firewall or stateful packet inspection, you would need to go to a
higher end unit, such as one from Cisco, Netscreen or Watchguard. There are
numerous others, but they all are bottlenecked by your subscriber's internet
access speed. I use a PIX 506e, however administration is a little over many
home owner's abilities.
