Thanks for you advice on this matter, however all I would like to know is
why does the PC hang, once you have closed down the connection.

I'm away a lot, so don't want to leave the connection on, also I only have
the one PC.

Not sure about that. I don't close my connection even when I had the BT
voyager. I simply closed my PC down when not in use and ADSL would connect
when the PC is fired up although not very good at keeping connection using
USB modem.

Are you using one of those ISP's that has a connect/disconnect feature on
the task bar? I think BT Broadband uses this although I can't be certain.

My Voyager never gave me the option to connect/disconnect.

I'd put it down to USB being problematic in some instances... I
don't suppose it would be an option to just unplug the modem (so
that the driver warns you it is disconnected) - if necessary use
a USB extension so the plug for the modem is easily reachable !!
