Just seen a funny comment on ADSL Guide that I thought I would adapt and
post here for a laugh.
Just imagine BT's roll-out of ADSL and it's line checker being applied to
the Electricity and Water companies.
Electricity:
"Good News! Your local power station has electric. Although the length of
the power line between you and the power station is quite long, you may
be able to receive electric.
Our initial test on your line suggests that you may be able to power your
lights and television, but it will not be possible to boil your kettle,
use an electric oven, or iron your clothes.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to
confirm if your power line is suitable, and if so to determine what
appliances it will support"
Water:
"Good News! Your local pumping station pumps water. Although the length
of the water pipes between you and the pumping station is quite long, you
may be able to receive water.
Our initial test on your water pipes suggests that you may be able to
receive a dribble of water through your taps, but it will not be possible
to have a shower.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to
confirm if your water pipes are suitable, and if so to determine what
pressure of water you are able to receive".
..
