Hello there

I'm not an advanced linux user so sorry if it's a stupid question.

I was trying to setup squid on my laptop(for learning purpose), but I
got this message from squid that the hostname was not fully qualified.

So how do I tell whether a hostname is fully qualified or not? Is this
FQHN issued by LAN admin, or router?

man hostname

admin always, either hardcoded or sent from a dhcp server.

You may get more helpful answers when you provide details pertaining
to your problem, desktop (gnome,kde,..), command used, exact error messages,..
vendor (redhat, *butu, Mandriva,...) release (10.x, 2006, 2007).

If running Mandriva, you could include /etc/product.id, break the line
in half for posting.
Other Distributiion have /etc/*release or /etc/*verision
or try the command lsb_release -a

key words(s) in the first box
*linux* in Newsgroup box. You need to use the two
asterisks around linux, pick English
