Hi all

I am having a ftp related problem.

I have a Debian (Woody) on a laptop with a PCMCIA netcard (netgear FA511)
- connected to a router along two stationary PCs. There is no problem with
the internet connection but when trying to connect to one of my local
machines using a ftp client (does not matter which) - the speed drops
dramatically. This is not the case when using a ftp client between the two
stationary PCs.

I am not sure how to analyze this problem - to get a solution - any
suggestions?

Jacob

Have you tried switching cables or ports on whatever switch/hub you are
using to see if the problem follows one of those?

I developed a problem on one of the ethernet ports on my Linksys EFSP42
switch/printserver (occasional heavy packet loss with any cable or 2
different brand nics).

I also had an SMC 7004AWBR that was no problem for PCI nics, but refused
to link to pc cards (16-bit Linksys or Netgear FA510C cardbus) unless they
were set to 10baseT (mii-tool -A 10baseT-FD,10baseT-HD eth0), but full
duplex at 10baseT worked.

Hi

Thanks for the suggestion - it did not solve the problem. I wonder if
there is something in the Woddy kernel (v. 2.2.18) that makes it happen,
but I am to inexperienced to know where to look.

Regards

Jacob
