FTP Permissions

Hello all,
I am trying to set up an FTP server on my network and am having issues
with the logon. It seems that when I try to log on to create or upload a
document, all it does is come back to the log on as if my password were
incorrect. It will not allow me to create or upload to the server. When I try
to do it via command line, I get access denied. I have reset the permissions
on the folders and the ftproot. No success.
I am now at a loss. I am basically new to the FTP aspect of server setup.

Any and all help is very welcome.

Thank you all.

Scott

One presumes you are setting up IIS FTP. It will vary
some -- maybe quite a bit -- if you are using another server.

That requires WRITE to the server directories where the
FTP destination resides.

Reset to what?

What user are you logged on as?

Does your (IIS) FTP server allow only anonymous access
or did you also enable Basic authentication?

Are you logging on with the IUS_machine (anonymous) account
or a specific account -- compare the directory permissions for
THAT account (whichever you use.)

Thank you for replying Herb,
I was able to figure out that yes I had it set to anonymous logon only
and the write permission was not on. I am now able to log on and get to the
FTP and post and pull down documents.
I am still wrestling with trying to set up a specific user that is allowed
read only permissions to the folder. Basically a generic log on that I can
give that to other people who I want to give access to my FTP server.
Once again, thank you for your reply.

Any and all help is welcome.

Read access is easy. Write access is for uploading
and you really should never set that up for anonymous
since anyone could dump tons of junk to your server
(and they will.)
