Hi,
Helping a mate look at moving from dialup -> broadband.

They have a (E-Mail Removed) email address at present. Is this from
Freeserve / Wanadoo?

Assume that they are on a pay as you go dialup, so if they migrate to
Wanadoo bb, can they retain this email address? And what if they
migrate to another bb - can you access Wanadoo email servers from other
ISP's?

Basically just seeing what the chances are of being able to retain their
email address if they move to bb / other isp.

Thanks,
M

I upgraded from Freeserve pay as you go to BB and kept email address, I'm
not sure if you can read emails through an email program if you go to
another, but of course you can do it through the website. If you do not
access via the pay as you go login you have to re-activate the account every
now and again.

Yes.

It's possible to *READ* Wanadoo email (using POP3) from *ANY* ISP - but not
to send email through Wanadoo. It's also necessary to either login using
dial-up or use the Web-site "recover account" every few months as it
will get disabled through disuse if never logged into.

yes, you can collect the email from Wanadoo and use the new ISP's SMTP
server to send mail.

They can keep their address, they will need to dial in about every three
months to keep the account active. The SMTP server will need to for the new
ISP.

I've been on Freeserve/Wanadoo broadband since it started and I've never
had to use dialup to keep my account active.

The OP was talking of moving to another ISP, in which case he would need to.
Not every ISP is like this I can still send and recieve mail from my tesco
account but I haven't dialled into that for years.

T&C say you have to dial in every 3 months but you don't, when it stops
working go to their home page and retrieve account (don't install just
download the file) I have been doing this for years.

As for sending using the account I know people say you can but I have never
got it to work here, so could someone explain in some depth how to do it.
