I have US Robotic (USR8054) Wireless Router which I used without any
problems for 3 years. Lately it start to have frequent but brief
disconnection problems.

When this happens, it displays an error message "Local Area
Connection- A Network Cable is Unplugged" at the lower right corner of
the screen (taskbar?).

The dis-connectivity does not last long. It is probably only a few
seconds and the connection comes back. It's inconvenient when I access
a web or when I'm downloading files.

It seems to the problem of the router since if I connect directly to
my cable modem, then no errors come up for the period of time I
tested.

Is it just a a router gone bad because of age (3 years old)? Is there
something I can do to fix the problem? Or maybe a setup problem I
accidentally changed in its admin tool?

Thanks for any suggestions,

liu

I've replaced the router and it's fine now. If you know of a solution,
please post. I don't want to throw it yet. My laptop's wireless card
can go 108mbps with the old router but only 54mbps with the new one.

thanks,

have you updated the router's firmware?
http://www.usr.com/support/product-t....asp?prod=8054 has an update,
4/2005 which "improve issues with frequent router resets under certain data
traffic conditions."

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried the new firmware but it disconnects
every once a while (especially when 2 connect to it the same time or
when downloading files). Now I have 2 routers; one has disconnection
problemm, the other has wireless connection problem.
