Freedom2Surf browsing question...

I have had F2S for a few weeks now, on the whole I am happy. I went
for the greedy 1meg connection.

Positive points to mention are
1/ steady download speed in excess of 100kps
2/ always connects
3/ only dropped out once so far (nildram was frequently dropped!)
4/ good pop/smtp access

negs
1/ news groups are *very* limited (really crap in fact!!) no sign of
future improvement
2/ general browsing can be very stuttery, slow and gives blank pages a
lot

Now, I can deal with the newsgroups as I use a different server
anyway, and don't really use binarie groups anyway, but the browsing
is really starting to p*ss me off.

Damn, sorry about that, I pressed the wrong key! Doh.

My question is/was... Has anyone else experienced duff browsing with
F2S? Is there anything I may be able to do to make it faster?

I usually use IE6, but have recently started using Mozilla Firebird,
but both give similar results.

I had a half meg connection with Nildram last year, and the browsing
was super fast, and I was naturally expecting similar if not better
results from a 1meg connection.

TIA for all replies,

I can't say I'm having any problems with browsing (on the normal 512
ADSL). Are there any particular web sites where you have a problem?

Pretty noticable on ebay, when flicking around. And it isn't to do
with eedgits linking huge jpegs into their auctions. Often it will
stall half way through loading the page, and I have to hit F5 and
reload, which invariably works.

It could be a configuration problem on my PC, or maybe IE6 is bullying
Mozilla or vice versa. But I thought I'd check the general consensus
before I started messing around with my installation [got it all set
how I like it! Like when you used to have those terrible graphic
equalisers in cars, took ages to get it set "just right"! ]

I'm really just comparing it to my old Nildram 512 connection which
loaded pages in the blink of an eye, more like a good intranet
connection than internet.

I've used a registry first aid program, not keen on it, but it really
did pull my system away from the edge of the dreaded format and
reinstall in the past, I don't know, maybe it's strangled my browsers?

I would of thought that it is likely an overloaded set of DNS servers, try
running http://ntcanuck.com/ which does DNS catching locally and can also do
full DNS if so needed, I am afraid that often when you go with overly cheap
BB providers you often find that DNS/SMTP/POP3/NNTP/ are over subscribed too
and at peek times are slow or simply refuse to work.

Is Text only at the moment, apparentley you can request groups to be
added by emailing support though, I can't confirm or deny this
however. May be worth pointing out the servers still in beta last I
heard.

Doesn't sound like a typical Freedom2Surf problem that I come across
very often, maybe post in the forums over at the Freedom2Surf support
site at http://www.freedom2support.net?

Kind Regards

Justin

Browsing over the last couple of days has been ok, still getting rock
solid 110k+ on downloads. Only received a couple of blanks.

I shouldn't really complain, there's thousands of poor buggers still
suffering silently on 56k!
