Has anyone here any experience of using f2s - Freedom to Surf?
I'm thinking of trying their 1Mb 5Gig cap home service. Any
feedback or alternative suggestions welcome.

When asking about comparisons, it would be quite handy if you were
to do more than mention the service you have been considering, but
also comment on its costs and maybe give a URL. With many services
available, and no idea what criteria you want to assess alternative
ISPs on, it would be quite difficult to suggest others, IMHO. For
example, there's a Plus.Net 1000 kbps, 5 GB account but since P.N
has a setup fee, you might be completely against using it, since
some of F2S accounts have no setup fee (I think - sorry, not gone
to their website to know what is on offer and what they charge!)

One of my clients (my brother-in-law) happens to be using service
from Freedom 2 Surf for his office connection, on recommendation
of the local firm which installed their server and is giving IT
support. It might just be the router, or there may have been a
glitch in their area, but on a couple of instances their router
has gone offline and not reconnected. I've planned to suggest me
lending them another router to see if the problem returns but as
with most intermittent problems, it might not happen again for
6 months or a year !!

I've been using Freedom2Surf since June or July 2002, and they give
nothing but brilliant service. You might want to have a look at the
Freedom2Surf forum at adslguide.org.uk and also have a quick look at
freedom2support.net to see what users of the servide think of them.

I'm currently on the uncapped 1Mbit package and although the price is a
little higher than other providers for this particular package, I would
not for a moment entertain the idea of switching supplier.

One negative thing, though: Their telephone support only work during
office hours. They are currently trialling some extended support (until
8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays, IIRC). Having said that, I doubt there
would be any need to call support unless you have issues with your line -
and most general tasks (switching services, cancelling accounts, changing
payment details etc.) can be done using thier website.

It is £19.99 and activation is £49.99, there are a variety of hardware
options on offer if the original poster would like to pick one, if not
however they are perfectly find to supply their own hardware.

The Product in question's info can be found at:

If he is losing sync it is either a BT Issue or something to do with his
setup. It has nothing to do with freedom2surf, although admittley he would
need to go through them to log a fault.

We hardly see any problems at Freedom2Support ourselves, infact I forgot the
last time someone complained about an outage that turned out to be due to a
freedom2surf problem.

Thanks for the mention!

Even though it's only office hours, there are people monitoring the network
24x7, the weekend before this there was a DNS related problem on Sunday
morning, but within a short time of the problem happening, a member of staff
was working on it.

We've also read lately of people ringing customers out of hours to help them
and logging faults and weekends, so although they're not answering the
phones, there are people working somewhere along the line to keep things
running.

Thanks.

I'm not there to know whether it was losing sync or not. I merely pointed
out the connection was down on more than one instance, and not reconnected
(so there is a possibility it was something to do with Freedom 2 Surf, but
at this stage I'm not guaranteeing it to be so). Peter M.

Well, I've been on their 512kb uncapped service since June 2003.
During this period I've had no problems at all, and only one
(pre-advised) period of downtime for some maintenance purpose or
other.

I've never needed to test their technical support...

There are some who advertise cheaper services, but I see no
reason to move.

I've been on the std. 512MB service with them for the last year and
have no complaints. I've only been aware of perhaps 3 outages in the
year and they've been fixed in a few hours. I've never needed to call
them for support.

It will be taken off the first bill you pay after the customer you refered
has his or her service activated.
