Hi, I need to dial up using my laptop from my girlfriends house.

I don't really want to sign up with any ISP as I only check email and do the
odd bit of browsing.
Does anyone know of any free ISP that allows free dial up (0800) style like
x-stream used to offer in the olden days.

Thanks

Peter

LOL - I remember x-stream. I've just read an interview with them dated
December 1999.... wow, the good old days. Unfortunately (or not) for the us,
services like that disappeared along with the naive VC's who funded them.

The next best thing would be to use one of the many PAYG services (supanet
for example) and pay only for the local phone call. You do have to sign up
but it's only your name & address - make sure you enter a fake one unless
you like reading snail mail spam.

The only other way to get free internet access is to buy a wireless card and
go for a drive around your local business park.

you could get a MIPcard (10 quid for 2000 minutes of use, or 90 days,
whichever comes first, or 160 hours in 30 days) from a computer shop,
or online at <http://www.mipcards.com/>

I should have added - uses 0808 99 number and works only from BT lines,
but is not tied to a specific number, so the username and password you
are allocated will work from whichever BT lines you want to use.
