When I read ftp://ftp.delorie.com/pub/djgpp/, I got:
---------------------------------------------------
total 48
lrwxrwxrwx 1 0 6 Jul 26 2005 .message -> README
-rw-rw-r-- 1 20 64 May 16 2003 README
drwxrwxr-x 7 20 4096 Apr 25 2003 alpha
drwxrwxr-x 6 20 4096 Jul 16 1995 beta
drwxrwxr-x 3 20 4096 Jun 20 1995 contrib
drwxrwxr-x 7 20 4096 Jun 11 2006 current
drwxrwxr-x 12 20 4096 Jun 14 2001 deleted
-rw-rw-rw- 1 200 2000 Feb 4 22:08 mini-faq.txt
-rw-rw-rw- 1 0 15 Feb 7 15:00 mirror.ts
drwxrwxr-x 2 20 4096 Mar 17 2004 misc
drwxrwxr-x 2 20 4096 Nov 22 2005 rpms
dr-xr-xr-x 2 20 8192 May 13 1997 v2faq
-------------------------------------------------------
First line is no directory entry but "total 48" - what mean number 48?
What mean first number - 1,1,7,6,3,7,12.. ?, what mean second 0,20,200 ?
Next, I think is file size, next is date - date always in format Month
descriptive, day, full year, no time ?

When I read ftp.webpark.pl in my www page, I got:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
-rw-r--r-- 1 free free 282 Nov 30 2004 druga.htm
-rw-r--r-- 1 free free 226 Nov 30 2004 index.htm
----------------------------------------------------------------
In this case is differently - is one number=1 and two "free" (what it mean?)

When I read information from testing FTP server (ICS Delphi component)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Feb 03 22:26 .
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Feb 03 22:26 ..
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Feb 06 11:20 Ascmd
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 385 Jan 04 10:29 autostart.txt
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 1558 Jan 09 00:16 crawler.txt
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Oct 24 2006 ftp
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Jan 15 18:41 hammer
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Jan 23 21:41 iPack
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 59392 May 16 2006 LPGL_openOffice.doc
drw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 0 Feb 07 15:48 mailgeon
-rw-rw-rw- 1 ftp ftp 578 Jan 01 20:42 subdirs.cfg
-----------------------------------------------------------------
This is differently - is "ftp" twice , directories . and ..
Date is Month descriptive. day and (full year or date when year is 2007)

How proceed FTP directory listing in general case?

There is no general case, no standard. ftp server can return whatever it
wants for long listing. On unix like system's it's usually the output
of "ls -l" or similar.
