Hi!

This is a follow-up to my earlier post http://tinyurl.com/9efjp

I would like to configure a Belkin F5D7630-4A Router but the problem is
that we no longer have the password to the box. I know I can hit the
reset switch but I'm pretty sure I'll lose the box's current settings
if I did so. Are my fears justified? Does anyone have tips on
recovering the settings post reset?

Thanks,

- Olumide

That's what reset does.

- Of losing ALL the of the box's settings i.e. MAC IDs, info about the
ISP etc. Is there any way of backing-up/catching/reading all this data
before I hit the rest button.

Oops, I meant pre reset, and no I did not set it up before.

Thanks,

ISP connection info should be available on their support pages, MAC
addresses are available from the hardware concerned ... unfortunately
without a password I don't think you're going to get admin access to
the current configuration.

It's probably not that difficult as long as you read the manual.

Yes...log in and save the config. Oh forgot, you can't do that cos
you're a dufus.

If Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened
rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic
music.

There's the poossiblity that the person that did set up the system made
a backup of the configuration, maybe onto your disk. Let's hope he/she
knew what they were doing...

You could have a search on your hard disk for a file that ends in
".conf". It is a text file, XML format that contains all the settings
(except the admin password!). It starts:

<psitree>
<SecCfg>
<srvCtrlList...

Once you have reset, you should be able to import this file to restore
settings.

Good Luck!
