Hi I hope someone can help me. I have created a forest trust between
two 2003 functional level forests. gswin.local and
medical-solutions.co.uk Conditional forwarders were put in on the
respective DNS servers on the DC's and you can ping the domains and get
the i.p.'s of the DC's back.
I can login in on either domain with UPN's and assign permissions to
groups from each forest.
However to access a network reosurce form domain A to domain B or vice
versa I have to use a fully qualified domain name i.e.
\\servername.medical-solutions.co.uk
Hunted around on the net and can't find anything is this how it's
supposed to work or am I missing something fundamental?

Many thanks
Matthew

That is how it is supposed to work. AD is based on DNS,...DNS is FQDN

Isn't there a way to make \\servername works for both domains with DNS
suffixes on the client side ?

Use a WINS server.

WINS is "domain agnostic",..you should be able to have all machines in both
domains use a single WINS Server.

WINS is for Netbios Naming (single-word names, no "dots")
