I'm trying to set up our school DC server for roaming profiles and folder
redirection as in the tutorial at;
http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...rver-2003.html

We have seven year groups who log on as users from any one of thirty
workstations. I have created the Profile folder as per the tutorial and am
having trouble with the redirection folder, (Users). Both folders reside on
the second partition of the drive (New volume (E

To be able to apply group policy to these users I had to make an OU
container for them, this being only way I could get the GP tab in
properties. (Is this correct?) I then ran GP editor and redirected the four
profile folders to the Users folder, or tried to. No matter what permutation
of UNC addressing I tried, the user profiles refused to go to the Users
folder. Instead, the workstation took an age to load and a new zero byte
folder was created in the server Profiles folder when a user logged on to
the domain. (What is the point of the browse function in the redirection
folder if it doesn't put in a UNC address.) So, with a server called Server1
and the folder called Users on New volume (E) what would the correct UNC
address be for this folder?

TIA
Mike H

You want \\server1\users and set it to 'create a folder for each user under
root' ... but make sure you share out the Users folder on the server as
'Users'
And watch out because the default share permissions in 2003 is 'Everyone'
read-only.
Have a look at the below article for help on the NTFS and Share permissions
with Folder redirection:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...3acd31033.mspx

Hope this helps,
- Mark
