Fixed IPs or DHCP...?

Hi!

Windows 98SE boot takes 3 minutes if there are no IP numbers assigned to the
wireless adaptor. All documentation states that IP has to be "assigned
automatically", but I don't like to wait when I switch on my laptop. Is it
possible to use fixed IP numbers?

Regards, Jun Keller

Reduce the timeout

of course its possible.... just setup your ip, gateway, subnet and dns info
the same as the dhcp server would assign it.

There's something wrong there - it should take only a few seconds (my
98se box does, even over a wireless link)

Probably. But you don't say what wireless router or AP you use, what
DHCP is handing out the IP addresses, etc.

Fwiw, on my network I have a USR 8000a broadband router doing the DHCP
address serving, and an actiontec router acting as an AP, and my
laptop gets its address in about 10 seconds. So I'm not convinced that
its the "getting the address" part thats the problem.
