Currently I have a Broadband connection, and additionally have my
Website on a Hosting platform. Since I have a Windows 2000 Server in
my network, it occurs to me, it would be a nice idea to have my
website on my server. Allowing me access to all those features that,
most hosting companies won't allow.

So, can anyone tell me the best way to go forward in this venture?
Will I be able to get a fixed ip address, and what additional stuff I
will need to run the website from my server

Thanks, in anticipation of your comments

It depends on your ISP whether you can get a fixed address and whether they
allow or block websites on ADSL connections.

My ISP, Freedom2Surf, offer fixed IP addresses - one free with the "PureIP"
entry-level product - you pay a bit extra if you want more. I don't think
there is anything in their Ts&Cs about (not) running a web server other
than the usual decency stuff. In general F2S do not block or proxy anything
which is useful.

Perhaps your ISP is similar, otherwise, have a look at www.f2s.com.

They charge £22.50/month (inc VAT) for ADSL/512. You also get 50MB
webspace, 5MB MySQL/PostgreSQL database, and PHP, Perl and Frontpage
support and a good number of virus-checked e-mail accounts.

The service I have had (for the last 18 months) has been reliable and fast.
The only downside is that they only staff the phones during office hours.
General problems affecting groups of users do get fixed outside these
hours. FWIW they are members of LINX, RIPE and NOMINET and are BS EN ISO
9002.

Yes. It's fairly straightforward.

You need;

1) An ISP who will give you a fixed IP address. Speak to your present ISP.
If they won't give you one (you may want eve more than one). If your present
ISP won't do this consider changing to someone else like AAISP, Demon, Plusnet
or Zetnet to name a few.

2) A router that will either "port forward" port 80 to your server or work
with multiple IP addresses on your local network in non NAT mode. Most routers
will do this quite simply.

3) Webserver software. IIS comes with Windows 2000. Personally, I turned
it straight off and loaded up Apache (free).
