Firmware upgrade for DI-524 now causing dropouts?

All:

I have just finished installing the firmware upgrade for my DI-524
wireless router (1.05, 7/22/04), and am now experiencing intermittent
signal dropouts/loss of connections. These dropouts did not occur
prior to the firmware upgrade. I was wondering if anyone else might
have been experiencing the same thing....and had any solutions or
workarounds...

Thanks,
David

Many, many people have experienced the same dropout problem with 1.05;
also, MAC filtering does not work for wireless connections. Solution
is to go back to 1.03 (where WPA does not work - use WEP plus MAC
filtering).

John:

Thanks for your helpful post. I"ve been exchanging emails with DLink's
tech support, and have been feeding them "progress" reports as I've
gone through this and the attendant troubleshooting steps.

I enabled WPA-PSK on the router, and the laptop started dropping out
immediately. A desktop unit with a DLink wireless card did not
experience any dropouts. In both cases, the connection was managed
with XP's WZC.

Per DLink's suggestion, I changed the channel, reoriented the router,
changed to WEP, and nothing resolved the problem. I was able to
mitigate the problem a bit by opening up a DOS box with a continuous
PING to another node (wired) on my network.

Finally, I shut down WZC and reconfigured WEP on the router and the
laptop (using DLinks utility); on first reconnect, it still dropped
out, but the reconnect was almost invisibly fast - no actual
"disconnect" message. After rebooting, I don't think its dropped once
- and no PING -t in sight. The desktop machine, however, couldn't
connect with the reconfigured WEP; again, dropping WZC and using the
DLink utility, followed by a reboot, solved the problem. Now both
clients are happy, albeit with less security than I'd like.

Although it would probably be smart for me to drop back down to 1.03
on the firmware, I do believe what I've seen here strongly suggests
some problems with WZC (no surprise here, I suppose)...

I am continuing to experiment, because I don't want to leave my setup
with WEP only. I'll advise any news or progress.

Thanks again for help, John.

-David

Hey there, just wanted to toss in my 2 cents as well. The D-Link 1.0
firmware caused my DI-524 router to continually drop the connection t
my laptop (PowerBook G4, 12 inch with Airport Extreme) which 1.03 neve
did. I switched my firware back and haven't noticed anything since.

Maybe 1.06 will fix this problem?

DI-524 ver 1.05 firmware seems to be a problem. See:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...8359~mode=flat
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...6949~mode=flat
Lots of other references. The common recommdation seems to be to
downgrade to ver 1.03.

Yeah, I know, thanks anyway.. Was just wondering if DLINK has release
anything newer. With the number of 524's that were being flogged ou
around Christmas and sicne then, they would have released a fix by now
