I hope this is a simple question for most of you to answer - but this is all
new to me.
I am running three PCs - 2 on Win 98SE and one XP on a DLink DI604 router.
The person running XP wishes to shut his PC off from the internet but leave
it open to the home network overnight - he is using Zonealarm as a firewall
(as we all are).
What port does he shut down to do this -or is there some other way?
TIA
Jackiemum

Won't the di604 allready stop traffic from the internet?

OP wants one machine, inside the lan-blocked to the internet,
open to the lan

other machines to remain open to the internet and lan

he doesn't shut down to a 'port' he shuts down to all IP's except the three
other devices on the lan
(router & pc's)

amendment, some routers make use of more than 1 ip for themselves I think
a router may use 192.168.1.1 for itself, and 192.168.1.2 for a different
service it provides
so both would have to be ruled 'trusted' overnight

You can filter internet use in your router by IP or by MAC. Open your router
192.168.0.1 and enter your name and password. Goto the Advanced Tab and
click on the filtering button. Select IP filtering or MAC filtering and go
from there. Remember when you have made your changes to hit the apply button
or it wont save.

How about right clicking on the ZoneAlarm Icon down there on the Right side
of the Task bar and click on Engage Internet Lock and/or Stop all Internet
Activity. Is that what your looking for?
