I want to setup a spare system as a firewall/router/spam filter. What
distro is recommended? I'm pretty much a newbie at linux and something
with a web interface for configuration would be nice.

If possible, something that has a web filter (to block non-child safe
web content) would be nice as well.

Thanks,
Mike

I use IPCop (see <www.ipcop.org>) which turns a PC into an excellent
firewall/router. There is a good web interface for configuration and
there are addons for spam filtering and web filtering.

Does IPCop support PCMCIA network cards? I was going to use an old
laptop and will need to use a pcmcia network card along with the
built-in card.

Thanks...

It will support whatever linux kernel version 2.4.31 supports. There is
a hardware compatibility list under Documentation on the IPCop website
but I suspect that laptops have not been used very often as firewalls so
your PCMCIA card may well be supported in any case.
