Hi

just setting this up and would now like to configure the firewall (it's at
its default settings at the moment) - are there any sites that give clear
references to what I need to do - or should I leave it as is and stick with
norton interent security 2002?

Thanks

Ian

Some examples on using the DG824 firewall (with screenshots) are contained in
the review of it at
http://www.adslguide.org/hardware/re...ear-dg824m.asp

It should be more effective than any software firewall.

I have, so far, experimented with two new rules

1) An incoming rule which is like the default one but with logging
turned off...my log file was filling too fast with blocked connections.

2) An outgoing rule - again just like the default one but with logging ON.

You should use the Netgear Firewall, as by default, all Inbound ports are
blocked. This means that Norton has alot less to deal with, as the Router
takes care of alot of the port attacks you generally tend to get these days.
When you view the Router logs, you'll see all kinds of Port attacks, which
the Router generally blocks..........mainly Blaster etc.

If you wish to use things like Kazaa and some online games etc, you'll need
to configure and open some of these inbound ports. If you read through he
instructions, it's very straight forward. If you need any help, just ask.

Hope this helps.
