Is it possible to find an IP address if you have a MAC address? If possible,
how?

Thanks

Hi,

One option would be to go to your busiest server on the network (e.g. domain
controller, DNS Server, DHCP server, gateway) and look at the arp table

arp -a

Look for MAC address that you have and next to it there should also be IP
address if computer recently communicated with the server on which you are
running the arp -a command. For easier search save the output of arp -a to a
notepad and use search option...

No I am not following Mike around today and his advice is excellent but I
just wanted to mention there is a free program called Newt [ not related to
Nessus] that you may want to try to scan the network and it will report the
mac address and IP address of computers found. The free version may have
some limitations but worth a try. --- Steve

If you are using DHCP to assign the addresses, you can go to your DHCP logs
under %windir%\system32\dhcp and perform a "find <MAC ADDRESS VALUE> *.log"
Then look at the most recent assignment for the correct IP Address.
