Finding hidden firewall driver

Hi All,

I had installed Kerioa Firewall 4 software in past and removed it.
Unfortunatelly there remained some trash on the PC, which I removed
manually (all files and all registry entries).

I installed ZoneAlarm and removed it. No problems here.

But it seems, that something has survived, that causes some network
problems.

After a normal boot it looks as if no firewall is installed, but when I
remove all network component ans re-boot, I get the following error
message:

Firewall Driver: There isn't any network component installed.

PC then hangs up. I have to install the network components to be able to
boot.

But where is that unwanted Firewall Driver? And how can I get rid of it?

OSKAR

hi there :>

IIRC you have already checked msconfig for unwanted startup items .
correct?
is there anything in your autoexec.bat or config.sys that looks suspect?

if someone else has some thoughts ...please jump in..

For everyone who might need this information:

Kerio seems to use "fwdrv.vxd". In my case in the Windows\System directory.

In the registry the key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\fwdrv is
responsible for loading.

I hope this maybe helps anyone with similar problems.

OSKAR.
