Don't want to bury this in the thread...

Any suggestions arre appreciated...

================================================== ===

Hmm..The thing I am trying to accomplish is to set up a PCAnywhere Host on a
server here for when I am no the road, possibly even a Web and FTP server as
well but I do not have a static IP from my ISP. Any suggestions on how I
could find my IP even when I am not at the computer?

Thanks in advance again

Use a dynamic DNS service. Many are free. Some that come to mind:
http://www.no-ip.com
http://www.dyndns.org
http://www.dns2go.com

Or, have the machine in question mail its address to you. *This could be
insecure*,

My two computers connect to a wireless router which is connected to my
cable modem for broadband sharing. The local computers are assigned IP's
in the 192.168 range. Unless I reboot the router, the assigned IP by
Comcast is static. How would I connect to these computers using PC
Anywhere from a remote location?

Thanks,
Oscar

You might want to look for IPMAILER, it sends an email with the ip
address when it changes..

Use the DNS Service company below...Very straight forward set up! Works
like a charm so far.
Even have a little program that runs in your tray to update your IP when
Comcast changes it (Which I am finding is not too often...)
I am currently running a webserver and an ftp server that I can hit
anywhere...

Thanks again BobC for your assistance.

On a Linux/*BSD box, insert a line into rc.local that's something like

/usr/sbin/ifconfig | mail -s addresses your_address

On a Windows box, there's some provision in the user properties for a logon
script. I don't know how to mail from a DOS prompt. Go for the dynamic DNS
service in this case.

My box has an ostensibly dynamic address, but it gets the same address for
weeks at a time, because DHCP is handled by a router which I never shut down
(it's silent and cool... no moving parts).

You may want to try: www.whatismyip.com which displays your IP
address which is in front of your router.

Sean
