Filesharing using Broadband router?

I've got a desktop and laptop PC connected to a Linksys router. Try as I
might, I can't seem to get them to talk to each other!
How do I set both up so I can share files/folders between the two machines?

I have exactly the same problem with two PCs and a Linksys WirelessG router
so if you find out please tell me. I've given up after weeks of trying all
sorts of things. I even had it working for a while but then it just lost it
and neither PC could see each other despite absolutely nothing changing.

Oh well...

can they ping each other - if so its not the router, its a standard
windows networkng problem.

Burn down all firewalls, enable Netbios over TCP/IP on each machine,
ensure compatible account name/user/password combinations or set up
Guest access on both, set up a shared folder on each so there's
something to see, check for MS File & Ptrinter sharing as well as
Client for MS Networks on both adapters.
