I have a Windows 2000 Server residing on my network that I need to transfer
files to on a regular basis from a standalone system (Win 2K Pro) not on my
network. I would like to connect these two computers via USB or serial
connection and run a batch file once or twice a day to transfer the files.
Does anyone have any ideas on how this can be accomplished?

In Network Connections run New Connection Wizard and select Advanced Connection.
You can use Windows Scheduler to automate the transfer process.

Would I want to use straight or null cable with type of connection?

Most likely a null modem cable.
